Five Favorites [In My House]

My small-ish collection of Fiesta dinnerware. I registered for random vases and platters in three colors when we got married and have picked up several pieces from garage sales and as gifts over the years. We use it for parties and big family dinners.

Found these AMAZING vintage tin ceiling tiles in a shop in Aurora, Oregon (adorable little antiques town you should definitely visit sometime) called Aurora Mills Architectural Salvage. The tiles are about 24x24 inches and reside in our formal dining (which is currently masquerading as a playroom).

This was my husband's gift to me after the birth of our second son! I suppose he knew there were lots of grass stains in my future. LOVING the red, which is outside the realm of typical Lindsay color choice. Maybe I was feeling sassy? And, they sing a little song when the load is finished. (LG Brand)

Our family photo collage now features two adorable little men! So happy with how this came together. Thanks, again, to my husband for his measuring/mathematical skills. Favorite item: matching Pottery Barn Silver Leaf First Year Frames.
*The pillow covers were $2.50 each on clearance at Target. Always watch the end caps. For $12.50, I added the pop of color our family room so desperately needed!

Pottery Barn again. If I am being honest, I can't afford to decorate my whole house in Pottery Barn and that is probably why the few items I have splurged on made the five favorites cut! This 'Daily System' is fabulous (and they have added several more options since we purchased it a couple years ago). Keeps us all organized and sits above the family computer in the den.

Sarah's Favorite Things...

"Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes,
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes,
Silver white winters that melt into springs,
These are a few of my favorite things."

The Cranberry Bliss Bar from Starbucks.  "A blondie cake base, topped with sweet cream cheese icing and tart dried cranberries, garnished with white orange drizzle."  I haven't been able to replicate it yet.  It is...divine.  Take a box of these to your next Christmas get-together!

Yankee Candles, holiday scents in particular.  They burn for a long time and have a very pure smell.
They're having a free shipping deal on their website!

A Recordable Storybook from Hallmark is on my wishlist this year.  They're a little pricey ($29.95, in store only), but what a great idea!

The old school Grinch book and movie.  Hard to top!  The girls take turns being Cindy Lou Who.  You can get the hardcover edition with free shipping on Amazon right now for $9.00!!

Sing-A-Ma-Jigs by Mattel
We'll have quite a chorus with the McCabe boys chiming in.

BabyLegs Soft Dots Footless Tights
Hannah Rose loves soft things--the second I touched these, I knew they had to go in her stocking.

My after-Christmas purchases from two years ago--Pottery Barn Kids stockings and a matching tree skirt.  Find the updated version on their website (and buy them Dec. 26 for 1/2 off :).
Christmas isn't Christmas without board games and I LOVE Scrabble.  Can't wait to get this version!
$28.47 on Amazon with Free Shipping!!

Lindsay's Favorite Things...

"Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens,
bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens,
brown paper packages tied up with strings,
these are a few of my favorite things."
A Very Monkey Christmas DVD
This has quickly become a favorite around here. Carter is in love with George. He points to the TV and says "George peas [please]!" Logan knows the words to the very catchy song and sings it loud and proud all day long! I've even caught my husband humming along.

Sing a ma jigs by Fisher-Price
Between our house and the Donovan's, we'll have a chorus of five!

Zoku Quick Pop Maker by Williams-Sonoma
Don't own one, but these look delicious.

No explanation necessary.

Glee Christmas Album
LOVE it! Haven't taken it out of the player since it's purchase.

ABC Family's 25 days of Christmas
Check out the schedule and set your DVR, folks!
Yummy-smelling Candles by Bath and Body Works

Sex and the City complete series on DVD.
Love the packaging of this. All the DVDs and bonus materials in a fancy, girly book!

Christmas Wreaths by Pottery Barn
I love them all...this might be my 'after-Christmas' purchase this year...

Melamine Plates from Jane Jenni
These are adorable! What a cute gift.

Lovely by Sarah Jessica Parker
Not a new scent, but one of my favorites.

Friends complete series on DVD
I own all 10 seasons, but I bought them individually as they came out. This would be a great gift for that Friends lover out there.

Cozy hats & scarves from Gap
They have an adorable white hat with a pom pom on top, too!

Walking Iron Man by Hasbro
This was THE present for Logan's birthday! He saw it at Costco in September and mentioned it daily until he received it at his party this past weekend. If you have boys, I highly recommend it.

Just a couple things I am currently loving...and a couple more that would make great gifts!

Five Favorites + Five More [Oh Baby]

Happy LABOR Day!
How fantasticly timely this is since I was gonna write about babies and gifts! (I do realize this day celebrates a different kind of labor, but just go with it!)

We have three little bundles of joy joining our family in September (one yesterday and two in the next two weeks!). I will be an auntie to another niece and two nephews. YAY! All this baby talk got me thinking about the best go-to baby gifts. The things my babies loved...the things I loved...that I want to pass on to you...well, to everyone really!

This started out as a 'five favorites' list, but as mommies of five babies who have been doing this for almost five years...there were just too many fabulous things to discuss! Here are our favorites in no particular order:

(This link goes to our FAVORITE local baby boutique called SugarBabies. They included great info about Sophie on their webpage.) Made of 100% natural rubber and food paint. BPA free. Carter still loves her as we move into the second year.
Price: Varies depending on where you shop, but usually somewhere around $20. Both Target (online only) and Amazon carry her for cheaper than specialized baby boutiques.

I received this as a gift when I was pregnant with my first baby. It is a wonderful book filled with poetry, songs, recipes, and stories. It is perfect for the first timer who has forgotten all these little treasures during her years between being a baby and having a baby. There is a new 10th anniversary edition that sells for $25 at Borders. This is a picture of the original copy. Just because it's the one I own and it has a special place in my heart!

These items from Pottery Barn are SO soft and cozy! Warning: there is no turning back! I received two fitted sheets for Carter and I NEVER want to put regular cotton on his crib mattress anymore.
Price: $19.00 Changing Pad Cover
$29.00 Fitted Crib Sheet
$25.00 Boppy Slipcover

These are AMAZING! Let me say that again...AMAZING! They are huge, lightweight, breathable, 100% cotton Muslin fabric that just get softer and softer as you wash them. We never had loose feet or that one random wiggle arm when Carter was wrapped up in these. Super cute too!
Price: Again, varies based on where you want to buy...$33.69 for a four pack on Diapers.com

These floppy, snuggly guys are a favorite in Sarah's house. Each of her girls had one from birth and, I believe, Holly is currently loving on 'duck' number 4? This is a local company with a wonderful story.
Price: As much as we love Bunnies By The Bay, Sarah would like to point out that if you order from them you pay $10 shipping on top of the $10 price tag, but you can pick one up from Sugarbabies for $8.99 if you're local!

Melissa & Doug ANYTHING!
Great educational toys that the kids LOVE. So many puzzles, food play sets, blocks, classic toys & art supplies that we love here...the list goes on and on. The magnets above are a favorite in our house. Mommy loves them because they don't scratch the fridge like other magnets do. (We also play with them on cookie sheets.)
Price: $11.99 for 20 animal magnets

Oh Plah! Teething Cuff by Roundhouse
Alas, this is one item Sarah and I never experienced (doing a blind review here). Don't know if they are fairly new or if we were just in the dark, but they look fabulous! You know when you are trying to finish a sentence with a friend at a coffee shop/playdate and your little one just wants to eat your jewelry...voila! Take off your bracelet and hand it over with no fear! BPA free & completely recycleable.
Price: $19.99

These are literally THE BEST thing ever when you are mixing kids + summertime. They clean up in the sink with dishsoap and hot water, slip on and off super quick (the kids can do it themselves), come in fun, fun, fun colors, have good grip on slippery surfaces, and don't get me started on jibbitz! My boys wear them all summer long.
Price: $24.99 (a little less on Amazon)

I swear by these things. They are not cheap, but are totally worth it. At any given moment I have a pack in my cupboard, car, diaper bag...you name it. They are extra soft and made with saline that dissolves mucus. As a first timer, I wiped and wiped and wiped Logan's little nose with regular baby wipes when he had a bad cold and ended up with a red, raw, horribly painful nose situation. NEVER happens with boogie wipes. You can find them in the baby aisle at Target, Fred Meyer, Walgreens...
Price: $3.99 for 30 wipes

We enjoy the "That's Not My..." series, but all Usborne touchy-feely books are equally delightful!
Price: $8.99

...I could probably keep going, but I'll stop at 10 great baby buys. Hoping you feel armed and ready to venture out on your next baby shower shopping adventure. Or...if you're a mama who just HAS to have one of the above goodies...enjoy! Let us know what your favorites are too.

Five Favorites [Boy Shoes]

So, I am currently checking out my shoe shopping/BUYING! options for both boys. With Logan starting preschool and Carter starting to walk, they are both in need of a little foot love. Here are some of my favs:

Disclaimer: Some may think spending upwards of $20 on shoes (boys' shoes nonetheless) is crazy. Here's what I think. Most of my boys' shoes come from Target for under $20 (usually under $15). But, I do feel it is worth it to purchase one, better-quality pair every once in a while. And, what better time than with a new walker and a new preschooler?

Seriously. How cute are these? I have purchased See Kai Run a couple times and have never been disappointed.
Price: $40.00
May be a good transitional shoe for Carter...
Price: 29.95

Oh the WHITE! White makes me soooo happy, but I can never buy white with three men in the house. Still worth admiring for those of you who may be braver than moi. I bet they clean pretty easily.
Price: $34.65

I love these. Logan loves green. A shoe in? (HA!)
Price: $27.00

May be a tad sturdier for Logan man?
$40.00

I'll keep you posted on the final decision :)

Burn Notice: Five Favorites [Oven Mits]

I just burned myself while cooking for the fourth time in two weeks, the inconvenient result of always being in a hurry.  My arms look like a culinary war zone.  Here are two of the more impressive marks (the top one is actually a burn on top of a burn).

I have a couple of crusty, scratchy, burned-up old oven mits that really need chucked, sounds like a great excuse to go [online] shopping.  (Who needs an excuse??)  Anyway, I thought it was a great opportunity to check out the latest advances in burn preventing kitchen-wear.  I perused several different retailers websites and here's my five favorite:

Gotta love Crate and Barrel.  They'd go great with the cobalt blue wall in my kitchen.
Price: $10.95

Heat-resistant to 600 degrees!  Machine washable and stain- and steam-resistant, too.
Price: $19.95
Extra long to protect the forearm and heat-resistant to 425 degrees.
Price: $19.95

Non-slip grip and flame-resistant.  Also, great reviews from people who have purchased it.
Price: $15.99

Machine washable and oh-so-darling.  Not the most heat-proof of the bunch, but man they'd look great in my kitchen...
Price: $12.00 each piece

In the end, fabulous will probably win over functional.  I can't resist pretty baubles from Anthropologie.
